CAN I USE SALT ON MY CONCRETE?
No, The use of salt on any concrete surface can cause spalling. Spalling is where the top of the concrete flakes off. We never recommend any type of ice melt. Sand is the only safe alternative.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEAL MY CONCRETE?
We recommend maintaining your concrete every other year however, it is personal preference when it comes to any decorative work.
DO YOU OFFER FREE ESTIMATES?
Absolutely! TCC is happy to assist in deciding the right concrete options for our clients.
DOES CONCRETE EXPAND?
The expansion and contraction with changes in temperature occur regardless of the structure’s cross section area. Concrete expands slightly as temperature rises and contracts as temperature falls.
HOW LONG CAN CONCRETE LAST?
For large scale projects like buildings, concrete should last up to 100 years if it is properly cared for. Concrete projects that experience more wear and tear like sidewalks and driveways have an expected lifespan of about half that.
WHY DOES CONCRETE CRACK IN THE WINTER?
As the water in the concrete freezes, it expands and then thaws as temperatures fluctuate. This process stresses the concrete and causes cracking. The result of the repeated freeze-thaw cycles can be surface spalling (flacking) and widening cracks that usually don’t emerge until spring.
